Study Rooms & Classrooms
Group Study Rooms
The library has four rooms that can accommodate small groups of 12 or less for collaborative work: Room F, Room G, Room I, and Room S. Individuals who desire a silent study environment should use the Study Carrels at the south and east ends of the library or Classroom A (Reading Room) if it is not scheduled for a workshop, presentation or meeting.
- Rooms F and G can accommodate no more than four people. Each has a small whiteboard, markers and eraser.
- Rooms I and S have a capacity of 8 and 12 people respectively. In addition to a small whiteboard, markers and eraser, they each have a TV/VHS/DVD player.
Room Use Guidelines
Study rooms may be scheduled by groups of two or more for the following:
- Course-related research, study and discussion
- Media equipment use (when not available in the library’s Media Viewing area)
- Presentation, speech, and ASL/interpreter training practice
- Instructor/student, faculty, and staff meetings
Exceptions to the uses described above must be approved by a Librarian, a Library Supervisor or the Library Dean.
- Eating and loud discussion are prohibited in the study rooms. Users are required to clean up the room and return equipment.
- Library staff members are not responsible for personal items left unattended in group study rooms.

Scheduling Guidelines
- Students, faculty, and staff must schedule study rooms at the Reference Desk. Circulation staff may be asked to provide back up service when Reference staff is unavailable.
- Users may be asked to verify their college affiliation with official identification. Acceptable forms of identification include current Seattle Community College District ID card or other official photo ID. Users’ names must be on the college’s wireless access or staff Outlook lists.
- Rooms may be scheduled by students up to three days in advance. Faculty and staff may schedule rooms at any time within the current quarter. The study rooms cannot be scheduled as a regular meeting place for a class.
- Student reservations are limited to one 2- hour block per day. Additional hours may be permitted with approval by a Librarian, a Library Supervisor or the Library Dean.
- The reservation for a study room is nullified if the group does not show up within fifteen (15) minutes of the reservation.
- The individual who makes the reservation is responsible for room clean-up and return of equipment.

Classrooms
The Library has two rooms that can accommodate large groups (16 or more): Classroom A and Classroom T. First priority for the two classrooms is library instruction sessions, followed by other instructional uses. Exceptions to these guidelines may be made with approval from the Dean of Instructional Resource Services.
Instructors who bring their classes to the library for independent research or other instructional purposes - whether or not they need a classroom - should notify the reference desk to avoid over-booking the library and to ensure that adequate reference staff is available.
For details on scheduling workshops, see Workshop Scheduling Procedures.
Description of Classrooms
- Classroom A offers one instructor station with a computer projector. This computer is connected to the administrative network. Room A has a capacity of 35-40 people. This classroom also functions as a silent reading room for students unless scheduled for a class or meeting. Administrative networked computers and projector equipment should be secured in the absence of college faculty or staff.
- Classroom T (Instruction Lab) offers 17 computers, one of which is connected to a computer projector to serve as a instructor demo station. These computers offer Internet access and basic Microsoft Office applications only; they are connected to the library research network, but not to the student or administrative networks. Room T has a capacity of 30 people. Currently registered Seattle Central students may use the Instruction Lab for course-related research unless it is scheduled for a workshop or presentation (see).

Scheduling Classrooms for Library Instruction
- Credit classes offered by the library and library workshops requested by faculty have first priority. Faculty may use these rooms to teach research strategies and information literacy skills with or without the assistance of a librarian.
- Classrooms may be scheduled through Reference staff in person, by phone, or by email. Sessions are confirmed only when the time, date, room, and instructor (if applicable) have been assigned and recorded on the reference calendar.
- Follow-up sessions are limited to two per class, for a total of three sessions per quarter.
Scheduling for Non-Research Uses
- This service may not replace regular classroom assignments; requests for multiple reservations from the same class will be referred to the Dean of Instructional Resource Services.
- Non-library faculty and other College programs may schedule the classrooms for non-research sessions on a space available basis up to seven days in advance, but library classrooms cannot be scheduled as a regular meeting place for a non-library class.
- Classroom A may be scheduled for classes in need of media equipment that cannot be provided in their regularly assigned classrooms. Classes that need such accommodation on a regular basis (i.e., more than 3 times per quarter) are advised to request campus classroom assignments where media equipment is deliverable. Such requests should be made through divisions during the class scheduling process.
- The reference desk should be notified of cancellation as early as possible to make the room available to other users.
- Student groups may reserve classrooms on a space available basis on the day of use, at the discretion of a Librarian, a Library Supervisor or the Library Dean. Criteria in favor of such use include groups that are too large for group study rooms, or if all study rooms are already booked.
- Individual students in need of a silent study space may use Classroom A (Reading Room) on a walk-in space-available basis from 8am - 5pm. Students (groups or individuals) in need of computer-based research may use Classroom T (Instruction Lab) when the schedule allows.
Login Access to Classroom T Computers
Current students, faculty, and staff may use computers on a first-come first-served basis. As of Sep. 2008, users must log in to the library network to access the Internet and the network printers. Logins are listed on the college website under Student Accounts: Wi-Fi / Library Reference.
